Whitney Wolfe Herd was recently dubbed the Person of the Year 2018 by The Times. She is an American entrepreneur known for co-founding Tinder and founding Bumble.

Whitney Wolfe Herd graduated the Southern Methodist University and majored in International Studies. During college, Whitney Wolfe Herd sold bamboo the bags in order to help benefit the areas that were affected by the BP oil spill. She started the Help Us Project with celebrity stylist Patrick Aufdenkamp. The non-profit was successful, and celebrities also joined n on the efforts. After graduation, Whitney Wolfe Herd went to Southeast Asia to work with orphanages.

At 22, Whitney Wolfe Herd started working at Hatch Labs and worked various project. The most popular and successful one became the dating app Tinder. She was the Vice President of Marketing until she left the company in 2014 and suited Tinder for sexual harassment.

This is where Bumble comes into play Whitney Wolfe founded the dating up but put a twist on it that many women found refreshing. Only women can contact the users of the dating app. That choice was made in an attempt to eliminate the chance of any men sending nude photos of themselves to other users. While women send such unsolicited photos as well. Most such photos are sent my men. Sending such photos without the receiver’s consent is considered sexual harassment which is what the app is fighting agains.

The dating app took off quickly. It achieved 80 million matches in just a year. Bumble is the fourth most popular dating app with Tinder still leading the chart. Still, Bumble is gaining users fast an in November of last year, the app reached 22 million registered users.

Whitney Wolfe Herd considers Bumble to be her greatest business achievement. She strongly believes in the app and the chance it provides for women to reach to be on a dating platform without the worry of receiving unsolicited nude photos or being chatted up by men looking for one-offs.

Her achievement was recognized by several publications such as the Business Insider which included her in their list of 30 Most Important Women Under 30 in Tech. In 2016, Whitney Wolfe Herd became one of the Women in tech by Elle Magazine, and in 2017 and in 2018, Whitney Wolfe Herd was included in the list 30 Under 30 by Forbes Magazine. TechCrunch also acknowledged her in their 42 Women Succeeding in Tech for the year of 2017.
